meet beth

“someone whose energy to improve representation, visibility and opportunity for actors with learning disabilities is catching”

I’m Beth Richards; I’m an activist, actor, poet and I’ve begun to make films.

My goals are to make things fair and more inclusive for people

with learning disabilities and to get everyone active on

environmental issues.

One way I try to remove barriers is with The Misfits theatre company. We take complicated topics and break them down into easy but powerful messages to put in our plays, films and poetry. We’re using these arts to get people thinking.

Another way is through making my own films. They’ve included one about jargon and another about how not making “reasonable adjustments” disables people with learning disabilities. My most recent film is an animation about the amount of plastic we use.

I’ve been described as an “activist, a voice for change, whose has a strong focus on the environment and who often challenges social norms and breaks barriers” and “someone whose energy to improve representation, visibility and opportunity for actors with learning disabilities is catching”.
